‘In-ger-land!’ The yell of England supporters during World Cup 2006 inspired this year’s Celebration of Language week (19th June-22nd June). In lessons and in workshops led by our very special poets-in-residence, Joelle Taylor and Jared Louche, students from across Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 wrestled with the question ‘What does Englishness mean to you?’ Their answer was clearly expressed in the students’ writing: Englishness is and always has been about being tolerant, accepting difference and celebrating diversity.
